Thoughts From The Trail – Energy

There is virtue in work, and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither.

Reflection

For the first time in my twenty years of training for triathlon competition, my body has been reacting as if I’m an old man or something. I’ll go with “something.” 🙂

As much as I love the “high” from a long run, bike, or swim, I find myself, these days, yearning for periods of rest to let my body repair.

A couple of weeks ago, I did something I’d never done. Except for a couple of lazy runs on the beach and a swim or two in the ocean, I shut my triathlon training down for an entire week.

When we arrived home post-vacation, I felt renewed, reenergized, and ready to take on the final six weeks of my training for Ironman Muncie.

In my P.E.A.C.E. acronym, the final “E” is what I consider the most critical piece of the puzzle as it stands for Energy.

P – How effectively will you be able to fulfill your Purpose with a Plan if you have no energy?

E – How can you give your best Effort without Energy?

A – How can you maintain an effective Attitude without Energy?

C – How can you be your best self to your Community of friends and colleagues without Energy?

E – Taking care of your body, mind, and spirit creates the Energy needed to live your best life.

Question

How well are you taking care of your body, mind, and spirit?

1 Corinthians 6:19, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,”

AFFIRM YOUR P.E.A.C.E.

Purpose with a Plan – No matter how big or small, we all have a purpose. Your purpose lies at the intersection of your passions and your gifts. Find your PURPOSE and create a daily PLAN to help you fulfill it to the best of your ability.

Effort – Turning your dream/goal into reality requires a commitment to putting forth consistent and focused EFFORT toward executing your plan. Nothing great in life happens without working hard.

Attitude – The chances of achieving your dream increase exponentially if you believe you will achieve it. Remember that your ATTITUDE determines your altitude in all areas of your life.

Community – Nothing great in life happens by doing it alone. The chances of achieving your dream expand as your COMMUNITY of positive mentors and coaches expand. You become the average of the five people you spend the most time with–and yes, spending time with “people” through books and instructional videos factors into your “average.”

Energy – Living a purposeful life requires optimal mental, physical, and spiritual ENERGY. Commit daily to a routine of nurturing your mental, physical, and spiritual self to provide the energy needed to live your best life on purpose.
