The Picture

“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.”  ~Mahatma Gandhi

About fifteen years ago I saw a picture of myself and was a little shocked.  I had become a bit “chubby” and was tipping the scales right around 225 pounds.  I was a “svelte” 175 pounds when I graduated from college.  That is a 50 pound difference!!!  It’s amazing what that picture did for me.

In that picture I saw reality and I didn’t like it.  At that point in my life I was as busy as busy could be.  Between family and business responsibilities, I was on the run 24/7 and had very poor eating habits and very sporadic exercise habits.

From a physical standpoint, I’ve been on a mission since the day I saw that picture of me.  Slowly but surely I built exercise into my daily routine, where today I don’t even think twice about doing it.  I start my day with my time with God and then it’s off to exercise.

I didn’t develop these habits overnight, it took time and lots of saying “no” to the things I needed to stay away from.  We don’t ever kick habits.  We simply replace them with new habits and that is what I started doing years ago.  The most important new habit I developed in order to make my mornings more productive was simply going to bed earlier.  The perfect start of your day begins the night before.

Is there something in your life you would like to change?  Are you looking for a way to create new habits in order to replace old habits?

On September 18 we will begin an all new “3rd Thursday” series titled “Jeremiah 2911.”  This series will be focused on helping people cut through the clutter (old habits) in their lives in order to have a clear purpose with priorities serving as boundaries for new habits to flourish within.

Email me at jay@eaglelaunch.com if you would like to make some positive change in your life by attending 3rd Thursday.  The meetings run on the 3rd Thursday of each month from September through May from 6;30 to 7:45ish, and we take a month off in December.  There is no charge.  The only requirement for membership is a desire to change or improve your life.  We meet at 8264 W. St. Rt. 41, Covington, OH.

I would not be running a 10 mile training run this morning if I hadn’t seen that picture of who I couldn’t believe I had become and no longer wanted to be…and thanks to my wife for showing that picture to me 15 years ago.  🙂
