Reflection:
I observed many positive characteristics in my dad during his ninety years on earth, but the greatest was his grit wrapped in grace.
Growing up, he showed me what it meant to give your best—and to do it with a kind heart.
I always admired his work as a lineman for Dayton Power & Light. Whether climbing forty-foot poles or braving storms in the dead of night to restore power, he never complained nor did he brag about it—it was simply the job he was called to do.
But his finest moment came at the end. After learning he had an incurable tumor, it took him very little time to process his situation and say, “I’m ready to go Home.”
In his final hours, he never uttered a complaint. Even in his last minutes, he tried to rise from his bed one last time, but he couldn’t muster the strength, so he lay back down and within seconds passed peacefully–grit with grace right to the very end.
This Father’s Day is for you, Dad—thank you.

What legacy of strength or faith are you building? Who is watching your quiet courage when life gets hard?
