Gratitude–Give and Take

In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.

— Dietrich Bonhoeffer —

Several years ago I read Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book, “The Cost of Discipleship.” After reading the book it was easy for me to conclude that my life pales to the life of Bonhoeffer.

Deeply driven by the principles of his Christian faith he was an outspoken resister to Hitler and the genocidal persecution of the jews. This resistance to evil ultimately led to his death by hanging on April 9, 1945.

His life was taken from him because of what he gave and through what he gave, he saved thousands of lives in the process.

Reread the opening quote.

Is your life rich or poor?

How’s your gratitude?

Do you give more than you receive?

Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
