Depending upon when you are reading this blog I am either getting ready to jump into Deer Creek Lake for a swim, peddling my bike on the back roads of central Ohio, or running a half-marathon on and around the dam of Deer Creek or  better yet…recovering from about 6 hours of taking my body to the brink of exhaustion.
The temperature was forecasted to be in the low 40’s when we jumped in the lake this morning…cool.
Today marks my 6th 1/2 Iron Man Triathlon since I began dabbling in the sport back in 2003. All told I’ve done close to 50 triathlons of various lengths over these 10 seasons but for me there is nothing like a 1/2 Iron Man as it is long enough to test my endurance and short enough to not kill me. Sort of like how life can be at times.
Years ago when I was getting my life  back together I found exercise to be a key component in providing me the mental and physical energy I needed to execute my days in a sober and effective manner. I also found that I didn’t enjoy exercising unless I was training for something. Thus the reason I compete in Triathlons. I’m not very good at Triathlons but I’m good enough and it gives me something to shoot for while keeping me mentally and physically balanced.
In my time working with business owners and leaders it always seems as though the first thing to go when business and life gets a little crazy is the body.
For me I know when I eat right, sleep right and exercise right I can execute upon my roles in life much more effectively. I have a better attitude, more energy and the ability to handle the daily stresses in a more effective manner.
How well do you take care of your body? The amount of stress you “feel” is usually inversely proportionate to how well you take care of your body. Poor body care = Easily stressed.
It only takes two steps to create a new habit; start and continue.
