Your Day

Where we begin our day and where we end our day will determine our day…

I was helping a friend recently who is dealing with an addiction.  He has been in and out of recovery and sobriety for a number of years.  He has everything it takes to make it because he wants to get and stay sober and he believes there is a power greater than him that can help him.  I asked him how much he was depending on his higher power for help and he paused and basically shared with me that he was not real consistent with his prayer life.

So I asked him a couple of questions:  Do you believe God loves you and wants you to get sober?  He answered yes.  Do you have time to pray for His help?  He answered yes.

I then shared with him the keys to my sobriety as well as the keys that have opened the doors to the life I live today:

1.  Begin each day with God by asking Him to help me do the things I need to do in order to stay sober and to be everything He wants me to be…notice I didn’t write “everything I want to be.”

2.  End each day in reflection and prayer with God.  What do I need to give thanks for?  What do I need to seek forgiveness for?

I’ve been using the above routine for almost 28 years and although what I ask His help for each morning has grown significantly over the years (amazing how much more God can use us when we are living sober and obediently), my end of day routine has not changed at all…except I find myself giving more thanks than asking for forgiveness.

Where we begin our day and where we end our day will determine our day, and checking in with God at the beginning and the end as well as throughout the day makes for a pretty good day for me.

How do you start your day?

How do you end your day?

If you’ve been having some bad days you may want to start them and end them differently.

And you can always start your day over in the middle of the day.

…way too many Americans start and end their days with the media…both social and news…both are the devil’s playground…nuff said.
