Priorities & Willard Street

You'll never get to where you're going, unless you know where you came from.

Continued from February 27…

THE ABBREVIATED VERSION OF MY FAMILY HISTORY IS NOW COMPLETE…

You may be wondering why I went down this life history road.

When I was preparing for the priorities phase of creating our life playing field* I came across the quote above.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I love to read, reflect and find meaning in quotes.

When I saw this quote I immediately began playing the film of my family history in my mind.  It was during this “look back” where I more fully appreciated the work and sacrifice that had gone before me.  After the look back I felt an even bigger responsibility to take the best attributes of those who preceeded me and add to them the best I could give.

In essence, the spirit created when living a life on purpose never dies.  It is simply passed on.

I was very fortunate to have great role models go before me.  For those of you who can’t say that, maybe you need to be like my grandpa Frederick and muster up the courage to cross a sea into the great unknown searching for a better way; chasing a dream, creating a brand new life playing field.

FullSizeRender-1 (2)BTW…whenever I am driving south to coach a client or teach a leadership class, I go a little bit off the beaten path in order to drive by a small wooden-framed house located on Willard Street in Piqua, Ohio.

When I pass by the house, my heart smiles with gratitude and pride.

Yes, it’s the house my dad’s family lost during the Great Depression…you’ll never get to where you’re going unless you know where you came from.

Matthew 25:21, “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!  You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.  Come and share your master’s happiness.”  (NIV)
