Priorities & Sacrifice

The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.

Continued from February 23…

The young boy in this story was my dad, the grandson of Frederick Meyer an immigrant from Germany who came through Ellis Island in 1892.   My guess is my great grandpa Meyer was chasing a dream with hopes of providing a better life for himself and his future family.

The father in this story is my grandpa, the late Louie Meyer.  After he and my grandma lost their home during the Great Depression,  they both made tremendous sacrifices and worked tirelessly to get their family back on its feet.

By the time I entered the world I had no clue what my grandparents, dad and two aunts had endured.   All I can remember are the good times we had at their second home on the north edge of Covington, Ohio.

When I look back it is obvious to me that family meant the world to my grandma and grandpa Meyer and was the priority that drove them to do whatever it took to give their children the best lives possible.

More tomorrow…

imageWe are in the “priorities phase” of building our life playing field.

Personally I believe naming, claiming and living our priorities are the most important action steps in building a life of purpose.

What are your priorities?

Stated differently, what are your most important roles and/or responsibilities?

List them in order of importance.

Do your actions align with your priorities?
