Winter at Serenity Acres
Reflection
I love walking through the woods on our property. There’s something peaceful about the crunch of leaves or snow underfoot, the filtered sunlight through the trees, and the quiet only nature can provide. But every so often, a storm passes through, and I find my usual trails blocked by fallen trees. Some are small and easy to step over. Others are massive, forcing me to climb, detour, or even turn back.
Life is a lot like that.
We move forward, expecting a clear path, only to find obstacles—unexpected loss, disappointments, and hardships we never saw coming. Some are minor inconveniences that slow us down but don’t stop us. Others feel impossible to get past, stretching across our plans and dreams like a thick oak sprawled across the trail.
At first, frustration kicks in. “This wasn’t supposed to happen.” But eventually, we face a choice: turn back, sit in defeat, or find a way through.
The truth is that obstacles shape us. Climbing over a fallen tree builds strength. Taking a new route develops resilience. Sometimes, the detour reveals something we never would have seen otherwise—a hidden clearing, a breathtaking view, a new perspective. What seemed like an unwelcome barrier becomes a defining part of the journey.
So the next time you encounter a “fallen tree” in your life, don’t despair. Take a breath. Assess the challenge. Step over it if you can. Climb if you must. And if the way forward is truly blocked, look for another path. You might discover that what felt like a setback was leading you somewhere even better.
I always write from experience.
