What are you full of?

What a “catchy” title.  I’ve had more than one person tell me what they thought I was full of over the years and I’m thankful for my dear wife who doesn’t hesitate to tell me what I am full of when I need to hear it.

Seriously though, this blog is not about B.S., it is about real life and the many challenges we all face as human beings.

Recently I have blogged about idols and “things” that we become focused on in our lives.  I believe it is important to have passion but I believe it is equally important to be passionate about things that God can play a part in.  When we replace our relationship with God with passions then our passions become our “God” and no matter how you spin it; passions without God is a recipe for failure…I tried it many years ago and have the chemical dependency treatment center t-shirt to prove it.

For those of you who’ve tried prayer over the years; how many times is the prayer answered?  I’m not talking immediately, but when looking back, how many times have you said, “wow God did answer my prayer!”  For me today, I know God always answers my prayers.  It wasn’t always that way but once I understood God’s answers and my answers were not always going to be the same, I started “getting” this prayer thing.  A prayer started or finished with “Thy will be done” is a guarantee for answered prayer.

Anyway I was talking with a friend the other day who was totally paralyzed by fear and worry.  I talked him through it but at the end of the conversation I said, “make sure you amp your prayer time up.”  He paused and said “yeah I know I need to do that.”  I could hear in his voice that he was thinking he was not praying enough or if at all…and this person is a strong man of faith.

During my devotion this morning I wrote the following statement: “There is no room for God if you are full of fear and worry.  There is no room for fear and worry if you are full of God.”

What are you full of?  Try filling up with God through prayer early and often and you will be amazed how quickly the B.S of life begins to disappear.

Some great scripture to reflect on:

Psalm 56:3-4, “When I am afraid, I will trust in you.  In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid.  What can mortal man do to me?”

Isaiah  41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand.”
