Vision & Your Funeral

“Just because the past didn’t turn out like you wanted it to, doesn’t mean your future can’t be better than you ever imagined.”

A major breakthrough in my life took place when I read Stephan Covey’s book, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.”  Next to the Bible, it is the book I’ve read the most.

Early in the book, Covey challenges the reader to be an observer at his or her funeral.  He encourages the reader to write the script for their funeral.  Seems a little corny, but it is a very powerful exercise.

Covey’s first habit is “Be Proactive.”  Which means take control of your life…very similar to what we’ve been doing over the past six weeks.

Covey’s second habit is “Begin with the end in mind.”

Imagining what your funeral will be like and writing down what you would like people to say about you is a great way to begin with the end in mind.

I’ve actually gone one step beyond death and my funeral, by envisioning what my talk with God will be like when I take the step from death into eternal life;  “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23).  That vision drives the vision I have for my funeral.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the vision for your life is a very powerful force.
