Twelve Days of Choosing Peace over Anxiety – Day 1

Peace isn’t found when life slows down; it’s found when our heart looks up.

— JMeyer —

Pre-Reflection

For the next 12 days leading up to Christmas, my focus will be on choosing peace over anxiety during this, which can sometimes be a very hectic time of the year.

Having expectations and projections of how “it’s supposed to be” often clouds our ability just to be and accept the beauty and reason of the season as it stands right in front of us.

As a side note…our daughter, Michelle, is bringing us much to be happy and joyous about as she ties the knot with the love of her life on December 20th…I’ve been looking upward a lot the past few months. 🙂

As is the case most of the time, these twelve writings through Christmas Day will be as much for me as they are for you.

Reflection

The opening quote came to me as I finished up my morning devotion a couple of days ago. Uncharatstically I started the morning in a distracted state and was kind of enjoying it…if you know what I mean. Then I finally got on course once I laid my life down, surrendered to the big guy, and did my morning scripture reading, journaling, and prayer. It only took me fifteen minutes to get back on track all because I looked toward Him instead of the stuff going on in my life.

The Christmas season often starts at a sprint…lists, plans, expectations.

Yet peace doesn’t wait for things to calm down; it meets us when we turn our attention toward God.

The first gift of Christmas is presence…Emmanuel, God with us. When we slow our hearts long enough to notice Him, peace follows…I always write from experience.

Soul Search

Where do I need to pause today and intentionally invite God’s presence?

Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
