Trust Him

When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don't throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.

— Corrie Ten Boom —

This quote by Ten Boom certainly rings true for some of my thought patterns of 2019.

It is easy for my flesh to try and get me to dwell on my losses this year–three things I dearly loved:

  1.  My Dad
  2.  My Father-in-Law
  3.  My ability to train for triathlons

OR…

I can choose to dwell on the fact that my spirit has never been stronger because I’ve continued to trust the “Engineer” in spite of the losses I’ve endured. Reread the opening quote.

As the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 84:7: “They go from strength to strength.”

I entered this year spiritually strong and I will be exiting it with substantially more strength.

The following are notes I journaled yesterday morning:

Life gives and takes as it pleases.

It’s tricky that way.

Lock onto anything or anyone but God–and you will be tricked.

Hold loosely to people, places, and things.

Hold firmly to your faith in God, and life is no longer tricky.

Life is life, it’s the afterlife that matters.

Oh, and yeah, we gained a beautiful granddaughter this year!

Life gives and takes.

It’s tricky that way.

Psalm 84
