Journey and Heaven

It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.

One of my all-time favorite songs is “Amazing” by Aerosmith. You can see the lyrics by clicking on this link: https://genius.com/Aerosmith-amazing-lyrics.

In the song, Steven Tyler shares his battle with drug and alcohol abuse.

I was only a few years into recovery when the song was released, and it became my anthem.

Tyler uses the line, “Life’s a journey, not a destination,” during the bridge portion of the song. I heard a form of that phrase many times in AA meetings I attended: “Recovery is a process, not an event.”

Today, I know all journeys are processes that may lead to a destination or an event, but living a good life is about embracing the journey and staying in the moment.

As someone who attempts to be a Christ-follower, I rarely get hung up on destinations.

I try to keep my eye on the only meaningful destination that has been given to me free of charge through Jesus’s sacrifice: heaven, a beautiful eternal existence unfathomable to the human mind.

When my journey(s) gets tough, I keep my eye on that destination and peace engulfs me.

Know Heaven, Know Peace.

No Heaven, No Peace.

Psalm 23:1-6, “A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
