Reflection
Hemingway’s quote reminded me of how often we live for arrival: the diploma, the promotion, the award, the wedding day, the “someday” we imagine will finally make us whole.
Destinations matter.
Goals give us direction.
But if we only live for the finish line, we miss the very life happening between here and there.
One of the reasons I enjoy participating in triathlons is the training journey along the way…call me crazy, but the journey IS the destination.
Faith calls us to something similar. God gives us a destination; His promises, His purposes, but He also meets us in the walking. Scripture reminds us of this in Psalm 16:11 — “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Notice: the path itself is where joy is found, not just the arrival.
Every season, every ordinary day, every hard mile is part of the story God is writing in you. Don’t rush past it chasing what’s next.
Today, look around at the journey you’re on. Ask God to open your eyes to what He’s doing right now; not just to what’s still ahead.
Psalm 23:1-6, “A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
