Thoughts From the Trail – Abundance

An abundance mentality springs from internal security, not from external rankings, comparisons, opinion, possessions, or associations.

Reflection

I am less than five weeks from taking on Ironman Muncie, which means I just began week twenty-six of my training.

Time sure does fly when you do exciting things.

As I’ve mentioned several times before, the bike trails in our area are the best because they are not only lengthy, but they stir one’s spirit with the finest views of nature and life.

In the Taylorsville Dam bike trail area near Vandalia, Ohio, there is a crest on a hill that provides a great view of trains. I often notice people sitting atop this hill waiting anxiously with their cameras.

I was riding through that area a few days ago when I noticed two young boys running up the hill to see a train rapidly passing. As they reached the crest of the hill, the train was gone.

The one boy cried, “Darn, we missed it.” The other boy looked at him and said, “Don’t worry, there will be more.”

Don’t worry; there will be more.

What a wise statement from such a young man.

Fact

The younger of the two boys was living in a moment of scarcity while the older one, most likely from previous experience, viewed their situation from an abundance mindset.

Mindset

Today I try to live with an abundance mindset.

A mindset that is grateful for what I have and not anxious for what I don’t possess.

A mindset that is not focused on what I missed or lost but instead on what’s to come.

About a mile later, while pedaling north on the bike trail, I could hear a train rumbling south to the lookout at Taylorsville Dam.

John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
