The Best of What You Have

Your purpose is to utilize the best of what you have to help others.

Forty years post ONU graduation. Slower, huskier, but good-looking and wiser than ever!

Reflection

A couple of days ago, I met up with some of my college buddies to play in a golf fundraiser for athletics at our alma mater, Ohio Northern University.

We had a great time, and as is always the case when I meet up with this group, it’s like we never left college. We tend to revert to the days of our early twenties and love to tell stories and laugh.

Reality

Although we spent much time laughing, we also talked about reality

Reality such as we are three times our college age, in spite of our behavior suggesting otherwise. 🙂

Reality such as if we were to divide our lives into four quarters with an eight-five-year life expectancy, we would have but one year until entering our fourth and final quarter of life.

During one of these rare profound moments, one of my buddies leaned over and shared his challenge to find purpose in his latter years.

He caught me off guard, and, unfortunately, this life coach froze and missed a golden opportunity to hand him a recent nugget of wisdom that was given to me:

Your purpose is to utilize the best of what you have to help others.

Truth. Plain, And. Simple.

What is the best of what you have?

What are your talents, i.e., your gifts, strengths, and unique life experiences?

Who can you bless with your talents?

I will be texting Bosche’s quote to my friend today.

Philippians 2:4, “Let each of you look not only to his interests but also to the interests of others.”

Psalm 71:18, “Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, until I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.”
