Taking Action – Day 7 – Action Through Rest

Rest is not the absence of action. It is preparation for greater action.

Reflection:

Our culture tends to wear busyness like a badge of honor.

You can probably tell from the first five writings of this month that I like to stay busy, but I also have boundaries.

I obviously enjoy writing, but I can’t write unless my mind is fresh, and I keep it that way by maintaining discipline with rest.

I enjoy working out, but my workouts are fruitless without a body that’s recovered through rest.

I enjoy being an asset to the clients I work with, but I’m not much value to them if my mind is mush because I didn’t get rest.

Facts

Rest is not weakness. Rest is a strategy.

The farmer who never lets the field lie fallow eventually depletes the soil.

The runner who never recovers eventually breaks down.

The soul that never goes quiet eventually stops hearing what matters most.

If you are worn, rest today without guilt. It is part of the work.

Soul Search:

  • Am I carrying fatigue that is limiting my effectiveness?
  • What does genuine rest look like for me — and when did I last allow myself to have it?

Scripture: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
