Superior to Self

The truth is that there is nothing noble in being superior to somebody else. The only real nobility is in being superior to your former self.

Quote Reflection

A couple of “book mentors” of mine, John Maxwell and Jim Collins, have summarized leadership and the art of leading into five levels.

Although their summaries are a little different, each of them defines “Level 5 leading” similarly.

Maxwell’s Level 5: People follow you because of who you are and what you represent.

Collins’ Level 5:  Level 5 leaders have a paradoxical combination of personal humility and professional will.

Meyer’s Level 5: A Level 5 leader is as passionate about growing others as he is about growing himself.

Now that is nobility.
