Stop taking and start giving

After watching the events of this week unfold I was reminded of Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”   God is so awesome and in times like this I am in awe of his expansive power.  Solomon tells us in Proverbs:16:4 “The Lord works out everything for his own ends–even the wicked for a day of disaster.”  This verse came to mind back on September 11, 2001 and again this past week.  God is in control, he tells us everything that will happen when we are obedient as well as disobedient…just read the Bible.

Everyone thinks this election is “make or break time” for the United States.  Do you really think either of the candidates will create enough change to fix this mess?  I don’t think so.  I believe change begins with the individual.  We’ve grown fat and lazy.  I’m just as guilty as the next person.  We’ve turned into a country of consumers.  My definition of a consumer is a person who takes more than he or she gives.

Our great country was created by contributors risking and giving everything they had for freedom.  We’ve taken this freedom and used and abused it and have become a nation of undisciplined consumers.  Solomon says in Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”  Somewhere along the line we’ve lost our fear of the Lord and this lack of fear has caused us to “consume” ourselves into this present state of affairs.

The solution to this problem is simple…give more than you take in every situation.
