Spiritual Condition & Helping the Least

God won't hold us accountable for what we could not do, but He will hold us accountable for the things we could have done.

— Joyce Meyer —

We continue our discussion on what it takes to keep our spiritual condition strong.

God won’t hold us accountable for what we could not do, but He will hold us accountable for the things we could have done.  ~Joyce Meyer

What a profound word from Joyce Meyer!

How many times have you had a thought about helping someone or reaching out to someone in need and didn’t follow through on it?  How many times have you fearfully walked by someone who looked or smelled a little weird?  Have you ever helped a homeless person?

Read the scripture below and reflect on it as Jesus gives a powerful statement about what it means to Him when we help others.  Especially when we help those who are normally ignored and overlooked by society (i.e. the least of these).

Matthew 25:34-36, “Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father!  Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom.  It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation.  And here’s why:

I was hungry and you fed me,

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,

I was homeless and you gave me a room,

I was shivering and you gave me clothes,

I was sick and you stopped to visit,

I was in prison and you came to me.'”

Then those ‘sheep’ are going to say, ‘Master, what are you talking about?  When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink?  And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?’  Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth:  Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me–you did it to me.'”  (MSG)

Who have you fed lately?  Who have you given shelter to?  Who have you given clothes to?  When is the last time you visited a sick person or someone in prison?

We weren’t born into this world to only help ourselves.  God needs our help and tells us when we help the overlooked and ignored we are helping Him.

If you are looking for the best way to keep your spiritual condition strong, try giving more to the world than you take.
