A “shortcoming” is like a flat tire. A “character defect” is like driving on it. ~Unknown
Today, we take a deeper dive by looking at what it takes to keep our house (spirit) clean.
I don’t know about you, but I have to work to keep my house clean.
Working to keep my house clean involves being honest with myself and being honest with myself requires me to know myself…the good, the bad and the ugly.
How many of us recognize something is wrong with our spirit but do nothing about it?
Years ago I worked with my AA sponsor and took some some steps in order to help me better recognize my shortcomings and character defects.
Although my character defects aren’t as active these days, I still have to pay attention to them and deal with them immediately or I end up driving my life on a flat tire (see opening quote).
Shortcomings left unattended take up the  “space” in our house where God should be dwelling.
How honest are you with yourself? Â Are you able to quickly recognize when your shortcomings/defects of character are pushing God out?
Stated differently, how long do you allow your spirit to be in turmoil before tending to it?
If this is a problem for you, I suggest you reach out to a trusted accountability partner and ask him or her to help you do a fearless and moral personal inventory of yourself  in order to identify your shortcomings. And then in the presence of your accountability partner and God, prayerfully turn your character defects over to God.
Then continue to turn your character defects over to God as soon as they rear their ugly head(s) as often as you need to.
The devil loves to use our defects of character and shortcomings to keep God out.

Romans 12:1-2, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (ESV)
