Speak It

Speak whatever it is you are aspiring to be because you are always listening.

Reflection

“For us to win a national championship, we need to run our defenders off our picks as closely as possible.”

The above is an example of how I used to talk with the teams I coached during my son and daughter’s AAU basketball careers. I prefaced all corrections with, “For us to win a national championship.”

I wanted to say…

“You guys or girls suck!

You aren’t listening!

You aren’t executing!

You would be lucky to beat your moms!”

But, I knew that speaking was believing, and if I spoke negatively to the team, they would have trouble buying into the fact that we were on a journey to win a national championship.

Neither team won a national championship, although each won state championships.

Both teams made it to the final eight at the national tournament, which was impressive considering they were competing against the best of the best.

Do you ever listen to how you speak to yourself and others?

Do your words lift you and others?

Do your words create energy?

What you say and how you say it matters; someone is always listening even when you are alone.

Speak power.

Speak courage.

Speak possibilities.

Speak dreams.

Proverbs 16:24, “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”
