Slips

Don't look where you fall, but where you slipped.

— African Proverb —

In the world of recovery I always tell those I help that each day they are getting one step closer to recovery or one step closer to relapse.

This holds true for all of us regardless of whether or not we are in recovery from addiction.  We are getting one step closer to achieving our dreams or one step closer to the disappointments of yesterday.

I’m sure you’ve seen this happen: somebody finally gets their feet under them and is finally heading in the right direction and then gets lazy and quits doing the things he did that allowed him to succeed and then slowly but surely he begins to digress and eventually falls.

The slip is what we need to be aware of and it happens when we think we are cured or whole and no longer need help and/or to do the things that cured us or set us in the right direction.

One of the reasons I saddle up with God every day is I don’t want to ever slip again.

How is your life looking these days are you in “slip-mode” soon to fall, or are you asking your Creator to help you continue to stand tall?
