Shift and Get Off the Pot*

“Acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequences of any misfortune.”  ~William James

Life is full of shifts.  Our response to the shifts will determine the type of life we live.

A couple of weeks ago I got news about a problem with my health and I wasn’t real happy.  I don’t know about you, but for most of us when a setback takes place we go through a cycle of shock, denial, anger, paralysis (continuously sitting on the pity pot) and then we move to acceptance and on to new goals…or at least I always do.  I know some people who’ve been on the pity pot for most of their adult-lives…sad but true and I hope this isn’t you. 🙂

The amount of time it takes for us to move from our pity pots to acceptance determines the amount of time we allow our old buddy the devil to stay in our heads and mess with us and of course slow down our progress.

Needless to say it took me about a week to get my butt off the pity pot…which was just long enough to form a ring around my behind…and I made a quick shift in my lifestyle as well as my mindset and I’m back to the races.

Bottom line:  An effective life takes place when we are able to quickly shift and get off our pity pots.
