Safe and Secure?

Safety doesn't happen by accident.

A few days ago I heard someone connected to our federal government say he felt the people of our great nation were safe and that we must not overreact to all the recent murders at the hands of terrorists and other deranged individuals.

A few days ago, Lori and I took in a wonderful night of music delivered by a couple of rock bands with roots back to the 60’s and 70’s…still the best music ever made.

Prior to the concert, we stopped to eat at our favorite pizza joint.  While eating I did my usual scoping of the facility making sure I knew where the exits were and then running through my mind what I would do if a deranged individual with a gun came through one of the doors.  The escape I visualized in my mind was for Lori more than it was for me as our son Jordan’s life is dependent upon Lori.  I was also discouraged at the fact that I had not carried my gun and thought, “I need to start carrying all the time.”

We had a nice meal and headed over to the concert.

We arrived at the venue early which allowed us to do some people watching and catch up.

While people watching and “catching up,” I began to run our escape route through my head.  If a deranged individual came through the main entry, I decided running to the left and scaling a wall to safety would be the best move.  Of course I pictured myself assisting Lori over the wall and then began thinking about how long I would assist other people in getting over the wall before I would jump over myself.  Once again, I thought about how I needed to start carrying my gun because there were no metal detectors as we entered the venue.  Did I just say there were no metal detectors when we entered the venue?

For those of you who know me, I am not one to live in fear and I have a whole bunch of faith in God, but I am one to live in reality and I always try to use  good sound judgment.

I don’t care what the media and high ranking officials in our federal government say, our nation is not safe right now.

Pray often, be vigilant, be careful.
