reFOCUS – Day 6 – Thoughts ARE Powerful

A man can only rise, conquer, and achieve by lifting up his thoughts. He can only remain weak and miserable by refusing to lift up his thoughts.

— James Allen, "As a Man Thinketh" —

REFLECTION

Back in my early recovery, there was a phrase I heard in nearly every 12-Step meeting: “stinkin’ thinkin’.” It came from the realization that addiction isn’t just a substance problem; it’s a thinking problem.

I’ll never forget Larry Blazer, director of Greene Hall Chemical Dependency Center, looking at our group of addicts and saying, “You all need to remember…your best thinking got you here.” That was almost 39 years ago, and I still remember that moment like it was yesterday.

My best thinking got me to the point where I was bankrupt in every aspect of my life…

Your life will usually follow the direction of your thoughts. The enemy works tirelessly to distract, discourage, and divide your attention because he knows a distracted mind rarely fulfills God’s purpose.

Stay focused on what is true, noble, and eternal.

Lift your thoughts to Christ, not your circumstances.

Where your mind goes, your life often follows.

I always write from experience.

SOUL SEARCH

What thought do I need to replace today to stay focused on God’s purpose?

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” — Colossians 3:2
