September is National Recovery Month. Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Association (SAMHSA) sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people who recover.
For the next 30 days, I will be sharing short excerpts from my latest book–Victory Over Opiates, which is available on Amazon (click here).
The following was taken from the Introduction of Victory Over Opiates:
Our great nation is immersed in one of its biggest health epidemics ever—opioid addiction.
At the time of this writing, 100 Americans are dying daily due to opiate overdoses. A couple of years ago in our little village of Covington, Ohio, with a population of less than 2500, we lost three young men in eighteen months due to opiate overdoses.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from 2000 to 2016, 600,000 people died of drug overdoses in America.
DEA’s 2018 National Drug Threat Assessment estimates more than 72,000 people died from drug overdoses in 2017. Of these deaths, more than 49,000 were opiate-related.
This epidemic must be slowed down, and it begins with education and continues with the addict and those negatively impacted by the addict–taking positive steps in the right direction one day at a time.
PLEASE pass this blog on to anyone who may benefit.
All royalties I receive from the sale of Victory Over Opiates-(click here to order), will be donated to The Joshua Recovery Ministries, a Dayton, Ohio, non-profit dedicated to getting recovery addicts back into the mainstream of life.
