September is National Recovery Month (Recovery Month). This observance is held annually to educate Americans that there is hope in overcoming mental and/or substance use disorders.
I’ve been in recovery from substance abuse since August 9, 1987.
The opening quote is absolute TRUTH.
I knew I had a problem for years and was slowly but surely building my prison cell.
It took a group of people who loved me, along with professional counselors, to convince me the prison cell I had created was locked, and I was inside without a clue on what to do. In some ways, I knew I was a prisoner, but I always THOUGHT I could find freedom my way.
You can’t think your way out of something you’ve behaved yourself into.
Addiction is a disease and requires mental, physical, and spiritual treatment. Losing focus on this fact is a recipe for relapse…I write from experience.
For the next 29 days, my blogs will be focused on my recovery and some of the critical aspects of its success.
Please forward my blogs to those who may benefit.
All of us are know someone who is battling addiction and/or mental health issues.
I captured this September series in my book, Victory Over Opiates. (Click on the link for more details.)
