Recovery Month – Day 18 – Power in Stillness

The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.

Reflection

Like many of my friends in recovery, my brain feels like it’s run by a loud, unruly committee that never adjourns. Today, they might call it ADHD; I call it an active brain. To quiet the noise, I’ve learned to unplug—creating space to stop, breathe, and just be.

That’s why I begin each day by right-sizing myself through scripture, meditation, prayer, journaling, and exercise. Recently, I took that practice to another level with something I had been considering for a couple of years: my first annual Via Nova (New Way) Walk.

Via Nova Walk is a six-hour journey of walking, observing, listening, praying, meditating, and journaling…with a few snacks in between. 🙂

My home base was the beauty in and around the bike trails of Miami County, where still waters and quiet woods reflected the serenity I was seeking.

I ended with sore muscles but a renewed mind, spirit, and soul. That walk taught me again that stillness isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. Stillness isn’t the absence of life; it’s the doorway to truly living.
