Random Thoughts

Over the past few months the media has provided extensive/endless coverage on the deaths of two men and one twelve year old boy all at the hands of law enforcement.

None of this would be news if good decision making would have taken place in each of these three tragic incidences.

Those that died made decisions that put them in harm’s way.

Those who took the lives of three people made decisions to use deadly force.

What we have are three tragic and very sad situations involving questionable decisions made by six human beings.

Three of them will not get to see another day.

The other three will have to live with their decisions the rest of their lives.

These situations are not about race.  I’m certain the same has happened with white on white etc…it’s just not as appealing for the news to report on.

Those who make it about race are racist.

These situations are about decisions.

We all have to live with our decisions.

We become the decisions we make.

I was in Chicago this past Thursday and in the course of a 24 hour period I interacted with at least a half-dozen African Americans.  Whether it was taking my toll on the turnpike, assisting me with parking my car or making sure my stay at the hotel was comfortable, we all shared smiles and pleasantries with love…no hate…no suspicion…just people helping people.

The only person who was a jerk to me on my 24 hour trip was a white guy…go figure.

Maybe it’s time to make a decision to turn the news off and quit feeding into the media’s attempt to create a racial divide and turn the prayer line on and ask for God to cover all of us with better decision making processes.

…also…I just heard that heroin overdoses will soon exceed automobile accidents as the number one cause of deaths in Ohio…all because of poor decisions.  (Click here to read more about the heroin epidemic)

We become the decisions we make.
