Purpose

Your purpose is born in the heart of God long before you discover it.

Reflection

As simple as it sounds, knowing your purpose—and living it out—is not easy.

It’s hard to find, especially when we lead with our flesh instead of our faith. And it’s hard to live, because God’s calling always stretches us.

One thing I’ve learned about the Big Guy: He isn’t big on comfort. Maybe that’s why He insists on Sabbath—because living our God-purpose can drain us if we don’t rest in Him.

I’m devoting my December writings to purpose.

This is the month Jesus entered the world with a purpose. When you trace His three years of ministry—especially His brutal death—you understand why I say that living God’s purpose isn’t for the faint of heart.

As always, these reflections will go wherever the Holy Spirit leads.

Soul Search

If your God-purpose is the mountaintop, and your roles, priorities, and life experiences are the trails leading upward:

• What do you believe your God-purpose truly is?
• What might He have planted in you before you were born?
• What comes naturally to you, yet feels “too ordinary” to claim as a calling?
• What is the one thing you do well without trying?

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” — Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)
