Proverbs 12 and God’s success formula…

A daily practice I started years ago during my devotion time is the reading and studying of the Proverb corresponding with the day of the month.

Proverbs 12 is one of the shorter Proverbs but it contains a powerful recipe for success.  Below is a stream of “success” virtues laid forth for us from Proverbs 12.

Disciplined learner, fruitful planning, godly (right-living), thoughtful planner, thoughtful use of words, family man or woman, sensible, humble, caring, hard worker honest,  godly (right-living), thoughtful use of words, hard worker, good listener, calm, honest, thoughtful use of words, honest, peaceful, joyful, godly (right-living), honest, humble, hard worker, don’t worry, mentor, hard worker, godly (right-living).

Notice how many times “hard work” is alluded to in Proverbs 12 and honesty is a close second whereas “godly” along with humility is a thread weaved throughout this Proverb.  Something else to note is it does not say anything to the extent of “if you do these things you can retire to a life of comfort and joy.”

The success formula as written by God through Solomon thousands of years ago:

A godly/humble life (not about you) + hard work + honesty.

I believe the good Lord intended for us to contribute and give back to this world as long as we are breathing air and this is made evident in the 12th Proverb.  Retirement will come in the form of eternal life…only a formula God can make happen.
