Proverbs 11…the gift of giving

One of my favorite recovery sayings is, “you can’t keep what you have unless you give it away.”  One of the best ways to stay sober is to help others get and stay sober.  It is so amazing how we grow thru the giving of our time, treasures and talents.  God wired us to give.  Let’s face it, have you ever felt bad when you have helped someone in need? Solomon writes several verses in the 11th Proverb (NLT) reflecting on the gift of giving:

v.16…A gracious woman gains respect, but ruthless men gain only wealth.

v.17…Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you.

v.24…Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.

v.25…The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

v.30…The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.

Who have you helped lately?  There is someone, somewhere needing to be refreshed and you are the right person for the job. Get out of yourself and give of yourself.
