Priorities & Education

Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace.

— Confuscius —

What a powerful quote.  In the mid-1950’s education was about to become one of my family’s top priorities.

Continued from February 26…

When Joe and Janice started their family they had a major priority around providing their two boys with better lives than they had experienced.

My mom was a full time teacher while holding down the fort at home.  Mom was always working.  She was either cooking, doing the laundry, helping us study or grading papers.

My dad worked tirelessly for DP&L and would volunteer for overtime whenever it was available.  In spite of the long hours of work, Dad always found time to play ball with us.  He also coached our little league baseball teams.

Mom and Dad followed both of us during our college basketball careers which meant late nights and early mornings to work.

It’s important to note that my mom was the first on either side of my family to get a college education.  In essence she blazed a new trail for our family.  I was raised with no other choice than to further my education after high school.  Only one generation separated me from my two grandfathers of which neither graduated from high school.

More to follow tomorrow…

PrioritiesTo the left is what my playing field looks like to this point.

Creating your life playing field takes time.  You may have noticed that we’ve been on this journey for almost a month and we still haven’t stepped on the playing field yet.

Naming and claiming your purpose, guiding principles, gifts/strengths and priorities and then living them, creates clarity and focus for your life.

Having clarity and focus greatly decreases frustration and stress, which in turn makes living your mission and chasing your dream much more enjoyable…I write from experience.
