Priorities & More Sacrifice

If you win without sacrifice you enjoy it. But it's more satisfying when you have struggled.

What are your thoughts about the quote above?  To me the best wins are the ones that are the most difficult.  And the most difficult wins are usually the wins which take the most sacrifice.

Continued from February 25…

My mother, Janice (aka Dutch) grew up on the other side of town from my dad.  Eventually the two would meet, fall in love and get married on Thanksgiving Day, 1954.

Although not as poor as my dad, my mom also learned how to live with very little “wants.” I remember her telling me that her mom only owned two dresses because that is all she could afford.

My mom’s dad (my grandpa) Carl Miller, was an entrepreneur.  He always owned his ocwn business.  Owning your own business often looks glorious to the outside world, but with it comes much pressure and responsibility and always the risk of losing everything.  He worked endlessly to provide for his family.

Like my grandpa Meyer, my grandpa Miller served in the Navy.  It was no easy task for my grandma to keep the family and business intact while my grandpa was away serving his country.

Just like my dad’s parents, my mom’s parents placed family near the top of their priority list.

More to follow tomorrow…

imageWe are in the “priorities phase” of building our life playing field.

Naming, claiming and living our priorities are key action steps in building a life of purpose.

I assume you’ve listed your top five or six priorities in order of importance by now.

Take some time to journal any changes you need to make in order to begin living a life that is reflective of what you consider is most important.  What sacrifices will you need to make?
