Changing Priorities and Your Life

To change your life you need to change your priorities.

Reflection

I had a conversation with a friend the other day who was struggling with keeping the main thing the main thing, which was leading to anxiety and lack of sleep.

If this is you, don’t feel bad. Many people struggle to find and live their “main thing.”

The opening quote is so true. When we change our priorities, our lives will change.

My life changed dramatically thirty-six years ago when I prioritized staying sober one day at a time.

I knew if I didn’t stay sober, all the things I loved about life would be gone.

I knew I had no chance of fulfilling the obligations of my other key priorities, such as those of being a husband, dad, and business leader, if I didn’t stay sober.

I then found that my sobriety was dependent upon my spiritual condition, and keeping my spiritual condition strong soon became my number one priority.

Over the years, I’ve slowly but surely put all aspects of my life into God’s hands. If he can help a person with an addiction stay sober, why wouldn’t he help me be a better husband, father, granddad, friend, and business leader?

Once you believe there is no greater priority than your relationship with God, and you try your best to live that belief—all other priorities will fall into place.

Matthew 6:33, “Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (NLT)
