Purpose Driven

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson —

A few days ago I was reading a devotion from Charles Stanley’s “InTouch Ministries.”  The final sentence of Pastor Stanley’s thought went something like this, “Is your life characterized by purpose or fear?”

I spent several minutes asking myself that question and I began jotting some thoughts to help me inventory and discern what was driving my life.

Actions as a result of fear:

  • Worry
  • Complaining
  • Anxiety
  • Co-dependency
  • Depression
  • Self-pity
  • Comparing
  • Coveting
  • Anger
  • Idolotry
  • Resentment
  • Jealousy
  • Self-promotion
  • Self-glorifying
  • Self-focused
  • Self-consumed
  • Self-centered
  • Self-righteous
  • Judgmental
  • Scarcity mentality
  • Fixed mindset
  • Feelings of inferiority

I could go on and on and on and on…

Actions as a result of living life with purpose:

  • Positively impact the world in all of my roles and responsibilities.

God fuels our purpose…if we ask Him.

The devil fuels our fear whether we ask him or not.

Moral of this post:  Life is much more enjoyable and less complicated when we live with purpose instead of fear…I write from experience.

Romans 8:28, And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.

1 Corinthians 9:26, So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step.
