Scar Looking

God will not look you over for medals, degrees, or diplomas but for scars.

— Elbert Hubbard —

Reflection

I have a scar that runs vertically down the length of my abdomen. A surgeon left this mark on me after performing emergency surgery to save my life when I was twenty-eight years old.

My addiction problems and a life run purely on self-will had caused my stomach to rupture, but for the grace of God and a surgeon’s quick thinking, I survived.

I like Hubbard’s opening quote, but I would add something to the end of it: God will not look you over for medals, degrees, or diplomas but for scars and what you did with those scars.

If we live any life at all, there will be scars, and scars will make us or break us.

If we seek God to live with us in our scars, He will use them to His and our advantage…I write from experience.

Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (ESV)
