Scars

God will not look you over for medals, degrees, or diplomas but for scars.

— Elbert Hubbard —

Reflection

I have a scar that runs vertically down the length of my abdomen.  A surgeon left this mark on me after performing emergency surgery to save my life when I was twenty-eight years old.

My addiction problems and a life fueled by self-will had caused my stomach to rupture, but for God’s grace and a surgeon’s quick thinking, I survived.

Facts

I like the opening quote by Hubbard, but I would add something to the end of it–God will not look you over for medals, degrees, or diplomas but for scars and what you did with those scars.

If we live any life, there will be scars, and our scars often make or break us.

If we seek God to heal our scars

and use them to His advantage, they will make us while glorifying Him.

Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (ESV)
