Wow, I can’t believe we are at the end of this 40 day journey on perseverance.
I decided to end the journey with another quote by Eric Greitens.
He is so right when he says, “what happens to us becomes part of us.”
What we do with that ‘part of us’ makes all the difference.
I am in awe of so many people in my life who’ve endured hardship and found a way to take that part of their life and become stronger.
I ran into an old friend the other day. Â We hadn’t talked in years. Â We quickly caught each other up on where we were in life and how we got there. Â My buddy came from an alcoholic family and his childhood and adolescence was wrought with “alcoholic- family” stories.
In spite of his challenging childhood, he went on to become quite accomplished in his profession. Â He also has a great family.
During our conversation I stopped and looked at him with awe and asked him how he did it. Â “It” meaning–how he had survived the challenges of living in an alcoholic family and created such a good life for himself and his family.
In essence, he told me he was driven by a desire to no longer live in the hole he lived in as a child.  He even used the word persevere when describing how it took him seven years to get a four year college degree.  He shared with me how he knew getting a college education would create an exit out of a family cycle that had been around for generations.
He not only broke out of that cycle, he crushed it…all because he had a desire fueled by an attitude of perseverance.
Keep persevering!
Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
