Back in August of 1987 when I was about two weeks sober, reality hit me square in the face as I came to the conclusion I would never practice pharmacy again. My addiction disorder had turned me into a thief and a liar and my case was in the hands of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
As much as the thought of losing my Pharmacy license killed me, I began having thoughts of what jobs I could work in order to take care of my family once I got out of jail. I knew I was projecting but I honestly saw no hope in maintaining my pharmacy license.
Then I started tapping into the most powerful force available to me–God. Both of my AA sponsors kept telling me to put my future in God’s hands and to focus on doing the next right thing on a daily basis.
I listened.
After a couple of years, I was able to continue my career as a pharmacist and the rest is history…all because I put my future in God’s hands instead of my thoughts on a daily basis.
The biggest lesson I learned through all of this is God’s reality is not the same as our reality. I quit paying attention to the world’s ‘limits’ and ‘guarantees’ many years ago.
Today I focus on possibilities because of Him.
I humbly present this story as His representative for those who don’t believe His words in, Matthew 19:26, “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (NIV)
