Many years ago I had a home infusion company. We provided intravenous medications to people in their homes. One night I received a call from a hospice nurse who was caring for one of our clients. She asked if I could come to the client’s house to manage his pain. He had a pain pump.
When I arrived at the house around 11:00 PM, I was greeted by this man’s entire family. Â It was a big family.
It was obvious that the man was soon going to take his last breath on earth. I knew this family and the son of this man was a friend of mine. Â It amazed me at how much peace I felt in the home.
Fortunately we were able to get his pain under control and I decided to stay at the house just in case there was any breakthrough pain.
During my stay at the house something happened that I will never forget. Â All the family members circled around the patriarch of the family’s bed, held hands, and began singing gospel hymns. Â I forever have a picture indelibly etched in my mind of them holding hands singing Amazing Grace.
In that moment, where a spirit of sadness, grief and loss should have existed, I felt a spirit of perseverance, courage, peace and joy all generated from the sureness of an unending future for a great man who had…fought the good fight, kept the faith and was about to finish his race on earth…(2 Timothy 4:7).
With Jesus, it’s never over when it’s over.
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
