One Thought

The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.

— William James —

The world is under a great deal of stress right now.

As human beings, we are the only animal that God gave the ability to think before we act or as James notes, “choose one thought over another.”

In stressful times people have a tendency of saying much without much thought put into what they are saying.

When the world is in a crazy state, God is always up to something, and when God is up to something the best thing we can do is be quiet and listen to Him and seek His will for our thoughts and our life.

When I saw this quote I was reminded of some of my favorite Proverbs:

Proverbs 21:23, “Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.”

Proverbs 12:18, “There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”

Proverbs 17:28, “Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.”

I was also reminded of one of Mark Twain’s best quotes:

“It’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.”

In this time of stress and uncertainty commit to choosing your thoughts and words wisely.

The world will be a better place because you did.
