October Change and Ponds

We can't be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea.

Reflection

When I saw the opening quote, I recalled the first time I ever saw the ocean.

I was nineteen years old and ventured to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with two friends. We left in the evening of a mid-summer day and arrived just after sunrise about fifteen hours later.

When the ocean came within our sights, I, for one, was utterly amazed and blown away by its majestic presence.

Leading up to our journey, I was pretty nervous as I had never driven outside the state of Ohio and had no clue what challenges we would be facing. In addition, my parents weren’t real keen on the adventure either.

In the days leading up to our trip, I would find myself lost in thoughts of all of the bad things that could happen. Yet, not once did I think about the ocean and its absolute radiant beauty.

Once I saw the massive body of water with no boundaries for the first time, I was so glad that I didn’t cave to my fears.
