Sea Change

We can't be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean or sea.

Reflection

When I saw the opening quote, I recalled the first time I saw the ocean.

I was nineteen and ventured to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with two friends. We left in the evening of a mid-summer day and arrived just after sunrise, about fifteen hours later.

When the ocean came into our sights, I was utterly amazed and blown away by its majestic presence.

Leading up to our journey, I was pretty nervous as I had never driven outside Ohio and had no clue what challenges we would face. In addition, my parents weren’t keen on the adventure either.

In the days leading up to our trip, I would find myself lost in thoughts of all the bad things that could happen. Yet, I never thought about the ocean and its absolute radiant beauty.

Once I saw the massive body of water with no boundaries for the first time, I was so glad I didn’t cave in to my fears.
