National Recovery Month – Day 29 – Live Ready

The secret sauce to an impactful future is found in your daily routine.

Reflection

Years ago, I changed the complimentary close on my emails to two simple words: Live Ready.

It’s more than a sign-off. It’s a reminder, an encouragement, and a challenge to myself and to everyone I communicate with to live each day in a state of readiness.

To Live Ready means staying spiritually connected to the Source of all life and being prepared for whatever He places before us today. It means tending to our spiritual condition now so we’re better equipped for whatever life brings tomorrow.

When we’re immersed in addiction or destructive habits, we actually are living in a state of readiness; just the wrong one.

We wake up bracing for what might go wrong. We’re prepared to hide, manipulate, defend, escape, or numb ourselves. Fear, anxiety, guilt, and shame keep us on high alert, anticipating another struggle, another disappointment, another failed attempt to get it right.

That’s no way to live.

God calls us to a different kind of readiness; not to prepare ourselves for the next mess, but to prepare ourselves for Him.

Living ready means staying spiritually awake, grounded in truth, surrendered to God, and prepared to respond to whatever He places before us.

The enemy wants us consumed by the crap that pulls us backward.

God wants us focused on what calls us forward.

We’re always getting ready for something. The question is: What are we getting ready for?
