National Recovery Month – Day 28 – Becoming Our Best Self

The best way out is always through.

— Robert Frost —

Reflection

Early in recovery, my dreams were very small and somewhat nonexistent. I just wanted to stay sober and try to do the next right thing. In essence, I didn’t want to get too far ahead of myself because, in the past, that would create anxiety, and I self-medicated the anxiety.

Then, after a few years of consistently trying to do the next right thing, something happened. My life began expanding again. I was dreaming again. I was laughing again. I was uncovering my purpose.

Recovery or changing habits becomes less about what we’ve stopped doing and more about who we’re becoming.

God doesn’t merely want to remove something destructive from our lives. He wants to build something beautiful in its place.

Sometimes the life waiting on the other side of surrender is better than anything we could have planned…I always write from experience.

What new possibility has recovery made possible in my life?
