Reflection
We all know someone who seems stuck in the past.
“What’s the use?”
“It’s never going to get better.”
“If you only knew.”
“My life stopped the moment this happened.”
These are the voices of a victim mindset.
Jesus came to help us claim victory over the people, places, things, and circumstances that try to keep us stuck. Lamenting the past is not where our Maker wants us to live. After all, it’s hard to fully live when we’re constantly looking backward.
Recovery taught me an important distinction: What happened to me matters, but it doesn’t have to define me.
We all carry wounds, disappointments, losses, and things we wish had turned out differently. But eventually, we must decide whether our past will become our permanent address or part of our testimony.
Moving forward doesn’t deny what happened. It simply refuses to give yesterday authority over tomorrow.
Through God’s grace and strength, we can become more than what we’ve been through.
And as always, I write from experience.

Am I allowing something from my past to determine what’s possible in my future?
