When I saw the opening quote I thought about all of the people who’ve been left with nothing but their thoughts during this pandemic.
There is an additional line I would add to Landor’s quote–“determine who and what influences them.”
Every morning I note everything I am Grateful for, ways I will Optimize my impact on the world for the day, and what I will Deny myself in order to enhance my impact.
Nice acronym…GOD.
Every morning in my “Deny” section I write “News and Opinions.” In today’s world there no longer seems to be news presented to us in order to make our own conclusions. It is presented to us in order to get us to think a certain way.
Social media has opened the gates for billions of people to have their own “news feed.” Or should I say opinion feed?
For a guy who likes to eat just about anything, I am pretty selective in what I put into my body because I desire my body to fire at its optimal level.
The same holds true for my thoughts.
I have to be careful about what I am feeding them.
I have to be careful about what “company” I allow them to have.
If watching the news is making you angry and/or doing nothing but poisoning your thinking…turn it off.
If there are certain people on social media who are doing nothing but poisoning your thinking…unfollow them.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a platform for the devil to do his best work because so many of us have way too much time to think.
Think about the thoughts you are keeping company with and…
- Detain them if they are good and would be pleasing to God.
- Dismiss them if they are bad and displeasing to God.
- Inventory your displeasing thoughts and determine their cause.
- Dismiss the cause of your displeasing thoughts.
How do I inventory for displeasing thoughts?
Try using Galatians 5:22 as your goal:
“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such thing there is no law.”
Choose to no longer keep company with people, places, and things which steal you of your joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
I still have some work to do.
